Abstract:

Employee retention is an important issue that companies should focus on by identifying influencing factors and move strategically towards improving and implementing necessary policy in those areas efficiently to retain their employees. The main objective of this study was to identify the influence of five factors namely training and development, performance appraisal, welfare benefits, disciplinary procedure, and career growth on employee retention among the employees at Gilgel Beles College of Teachers Education,BGRS. The study employed an explanatory research design and used a quantitative approach. A structured questionnaire with a five-point likert scale was used to collect the data from the employees which was distributed to 125 and out of these, 122 were used for this analysis. The collected data are analyzed using descriptive statistical tools like mean and correlation and also to analyze the effect relationship regression analysis, normality test and multi-Collinearity test was implemented using SPSS 26 statistical tool. The main findings of the study include the following: based on the data collected from the respondents, employee retention is positively predicted by the variables of training and development, performance appraisal, and carrier growth but disciplinary procedure and welfare benefit on the contrary do not have significant effect on employee retention as the result employee retention is predicted by the value 63.3% based on the five retention factors. The study recommends that GBCTE can enhance employee retention by encouraging transparency and fairness in provision of training & development opportunities to their employees, carrying out wide consultations with the employees when setting performance targets and making disciplinary rules and regulations clear to the employees. The study suggests further research on the effectiveness of strategies used by GBCTE to retain employees.
