Abstract:

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems are essential for enhancing the performance of development projects, particularly in public initiatives focused on sustainable development. The purpose of this study was to assess the current state of M&E systems in public development projects within the Assosa Zone of Benishangul Gumuz Regional State, identify key challenges hindering their effectiveness, and propose strategies for improvement to enhance project performance and achieve sustainable outcomes. A descriptive research design was employed, utilizing a quantitative approach data collection technique. Stratified sampling was conducted among various project types—including finance, education, health, agriculture, and urban development. The sample size was consist of 137 participants from selected public sector bureaus. Data were sourced from both primary and secondary sources, collected through survey questionnaires. Quantitative data analysis will involve statistical methods such as Descriptive Statistics, Correlation Analysis, and Regression Analysis using SPSS 27.
