Abstract:

This study had the aim to explore the impact of DRDIP’s livelihood program on the livelihood of refuge hosting households in Benishangul Gumuz Regional States, Assosa zone Bambasi & Homosha woredas. In order to do this, nine kebeles were chosen from DRDIP target kebeles. By using semi-structured questionnaires with purposive sampling technique primary data were collected from the total of 316 household heads among which 161 Non-users and 155 users of DRDIP. The impact of DRDIP livelihood program on the households’ income was observed. Accordingly, annual income of DRDIP participants was greater by 34,998.20 ETB than non participants'. The study revealed that income generated by the project users in the study area were increased by 20.0 % due to intervention. In conclusion, it was found that the support to livelihood program of DRDIP improved the livelihoods of household participant. Therefor the study, recommend the regional government and DRDIP stockholders to fill the gap between project participants and non-participants by increasing their total income to invest in the livelihood generation opportunities for the households in the study area of Bambasi and Homosha woredas, and the region in general.
