MAJOR INFLUENCE FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE PARTICIPATION OF FEMALE STUDENTS ON PHYSICAL EDUCATION PRACTICAL SESSION IN THE CASE OF MENDI SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Abstract:

In Ethiopia there is no scientific evidence in identifying the major influence that affects the participation of female students on physical education practical session.The purpose of this study to investigating major influence that affects the participation of female students on physical education practical session in case of Mendi town high schools. In this research, Survey research design was used with both qualitative and quantitative research approaches.Thus,3 school director and 8 PE teachers of the target school were comprehensively taken as source of data along with 120 students who were selected in stratified random sampling technique out of 800 students. To collect the required data for the study, questionnaires, interviews and observations were used as an instrument. The data obtained through these were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitatively the analysis is made using tables of descriptive percentage and then worded through qualitative. Based on analysis made major factors were drawn, as the finding of the study shows that, the major factors associated insufficient materials and facilities affect the females’ need of participation. Physical education teachers’ interactions with their students were not in admiring level ,safe and sufficient training field, had also affect the participation of female students in learning physical education practical class.And also family, society, culture and religion were another obstacles. From the major finding, the researcher provided possible solution for teacher, students and all concerns bodies. Therefore, based on the findings of the study, it is recommended to allow female students to participate in football activity with the help of physical education teachers. It is also recommended that the school facilities and materials should be fulfilled to enhance females’ participation in physical education practical class.
